Hey, it's Claire here…
Well it's true what they say: time flies when you are having fun! I honestly can't believe that my first season as a Rockette is almost over and soon I will be defending my position at tryouts. Seriously, I break out in a cold sweat at that thought!
I have loved every minute of being a Rockette, from all the training with the girls to performing at amazing events. I was even lucky enough to dance at events in Switzerland and Italy… how cool is that?
I have also made a great group of friends so the thought of losing my place on the team is terrifying. Seriously, I thought I was nervous at tryouts last year well now that I know what I have to lose my nerves have increased 10-fold!
I found out about Rockettes auditions from another dancer and thought I'd go along and give it a go… what had I to lose right?
When I arrived at tryouts I will admit I was pretty scared, I hadn't done many auditions and I didn't know what to expect… I had been imagining scenes from Fame with ballet dancers stretching on railings and people pirouetting in the corridors! But it wasn't like that at all… everyone made me feel really welcome and before long as I was quite enjoying it. Don't get me wrong it was hard work but you are all in it together and we were all cheering each other on.
Well over the last couple of weeks I’ve been stepping up my workout in the gym, putting in that wee bit extra effort so make sure I am good as I can be. Then I know that I can say I have tried my best.
So what would I tell people who were thinking about auditioning? GO FOR IT! I'm so glad I did! And just come and say hello… I was in your position last year so I know exactly how you are feeling!
And keep your fingers crossed that I make the team again. :-)
Love, Claire x x x

Hi everyone, my name is Deone and I've been a member of the Rockettes Pro-Sports dance team for 4 years.
How do I feel about auditions???? Scared, nervous, and a wee bit excited… I may have been through it 4 times but let me tell you it doesn't get any easier. If anything I think it gets harder as there is more pressure on the girls who have been on the team before, with fans, friends and relatives all watching to see if you make the team for another season that’s really nerve-wracking.
I love being a Rockette and can't imagine my life without it. I work hard to master the routines, be available for events and be the best Rockette I can be, so I truly believe that I deserve my place on the team. But my fate lies in the hands of the judges and I just hope that my passion and dedication comes across.
So what are the auditions like? Hard work but definitely fun! The first round starts with a big group warm-up with one of the fitness instructors. Then we'll be asked to complete a few fitness test… but don't worry these aren't nearly as bad as they sound. :-)
Afterwards Carole Anne will go through some technique; including kicks, pirouettes and leaps. And finally we'll be taught a short routine that we'll perform in a few groups… and that's it!
The week following… be prepared to be sore last year every muscle in my body was aching! :-) And of course we'll all be waiting to receive our letter to see if we made the final round.
The finals are different, not so physically demanding but a lot more nerve-wracking! After a warm-up you learn another bit of a routine and then we'll all need to perform it from of a judging panel and answer a few questions… sounds easy but nerves can get the better of you.
So what are my tips to people auditioning for the team? I would say to do as many dance classes as you can to prepare. I think technical jazz classes really help as it gives you the opportunity to do some technique like kicks, pirouettes and leaps.
And most importantly come along to auditions and just enjoy it… smiling can make all the difference when you are dancing. :-)
Well I hope that's helped and I look forward to seeing you all there. And of course, good luck from me!
Lots of love, Deone x

Tryouts are fast approaching and I'm so excited but if I'm totally honest I'm starting to feel the nerves creep in.
This year has been my first season as a Rockette and its been amazing! The whole experience of being a Rockette is worth going through that 'night-before-tryouts feeling' for.
I auditioned for the Rockettes for the first time about 3 years ago, when I was 19, but I wasn't successful. That didn't put me off though and I'm glad in hindsight that I did go through that experience because I feel that it gave me an advantage for when I tried out again last year; I knew what to expect and didn't let the whole tryout experience faze me as much as the first time.
Yes it's daunting going to an audition but I'd say go for it! Look at me I didn't get in the first time but I went away and worked hard at what I thought I was missing at that time and came back with more fight in me, more experienced and more confident in my own ability as a dancer.
And it paid off! Last year I was selected as a member of the Scottish Rockettes Pro-Dance Squad 2009/2010. So my advice to anybody reading this that has previously tried out and hasn't been successful is go for it again because you never know it might just pay off.
Kayleigh, Rookie Rockette
