Lexi's Scotland Diary…
"I'm so excited, and I just can't hide it…" Is the song that would probably describe how I was feeling. I had a busy weekend to look forward to… Real Radio and Setanta appearance to launch our fab new Rockettes tartan mini-kilts, gruelling late-night training session and dancing in front of 60,000 passionate Tartan Army fans… treeeeeeeemendous comes to mind.
As soon as Carole Anne delivered the good news that we had been asked to dance at the forthcoming Scotland vs. Norway game I just couldn't believe it! Roll on the hour-long abs classes, tough late-night training sessions and lots of shaking of poms :). Training was very intense, training a minimum of 3 nights a week in the lead-up to the game. However, I couldn't think of a nicer, more supportive bunch of girls to share the experience with… hard to believe such a group of girls who spend so much time with one another get on so well… but we do! All of it was worth it though…
Friday 10th October 2008… The eve of the Scotland vs. Norway game…
After meeting CA at the gym we headed to the Real Radio studios. Typical… when you're in a rush, traffic stops and slows you down… The Rockettes so need to get a helicopter (sponsorship welcome :)). Tonight was the night we were launching our gorgeous new mini-kilts sponsored by Slanj (if you're ever passing the shop in St. Vincent Street check out the huge bigger-than-life-size poster of our very own gorgeous and glamorous Gemma France who is modelling some very patriotic attire).
I felt quite nervous as this was my first big promo event (and was intrigued to discover what shenanigans Ewen, Roughy and Keith would have us doing), but soooooo excited at launching our new Scotland uniform!
You would think we were staying for a week with all our baggage… so we wrestle with our bags and fight the elements to dash into the Real Radio studios… ahhhhh the excitement was building!!! So the frizzy hair and smudged makeup look is not what the Rockettes are aspiring to, so we shimmy our booties at the speed-of-light into the changing area (OK I lie, a tiny toilet we squeeze into to get changed lucky we are just dinky) to get our kilts on… I just love them!!!!
We are led from the Green Room (that actually is painted green) into the studios where we were greeted by Ewen, Roughy and Keith asking us to do a twirl to model the Rockettes tartan for the Setanta viewers… I am sure they quite enjoyed the fashion show too :)… So we took our seats, I sat next to Ewen when CA sat in between Roughy and Keith. I am not going to lie I felt nervous to what shenanigans they were going to get us to do and ask us! But I thought it's only a 15 min slot… surely they can't get up to too much mischief. An hour and fifteen minutes later myself and CA are having a hoot… but wait… Ewen just can't help himself… he breaks the news (invalid news I may add) the Rockettes are providing the fans with a special surprise tomorrow while dancing at the game by going as true Scotswomen… aye that will be shining bright… it's a family show :)… our faces must have been a picture… of shock and speechlessness!!
So at 7:29pm our stint at Real Radio was a success with the anticipation and excitement starting to build for tomorrow. Now our next challenge - to make the 10-min journey to our late-night training session in 1 minute… helicopter hint again :)… okay we did tell a wee white lie to them that we had nowhere else to go but we were having such a good time we didn't want to leave…
TODAY'S THE DAY… SCOTLAND vs. NORWAY GAME… C'mon Ecosse…
We were all escorted into our waiting room where it was like Christmas had come early… a big buffet had been laid out for us to keep our energy up… we were all happy wee bunnies or should I say Rockettes.
I was feeling a pick-and-mix of emotions ranging from nerves to excitement. All the girls were very supportive knowing how big an event this was. Even although I had danced the dances so many times (I think I was actually starting to dream them) but this was a huge event for the Rockettes and we wanted all our hard work to pay off. Clayr kept our nerves at bay and entertained with her Simon Cowell tights impression… keep up the hilarious.com work Clayr… :)
Time to get booted and kilted… but panic had struck, my wee kilt had been put in the wrong size bag so I was pretty much going to fulfil Ewen's request of giving the fans more than they bargained for… After some swapping and pinning we were good to go, phewwwww…
We were all absolutely buzzing, and the reception at Hampden… well words just can't describe… which means it must have been treeeeemendous as I am not normally stuck for words. That day definitely goes down in my 'day to remember' diary.
Doing the routines was a bit of a blur, and it was over so quickly. I came off like… "I want to do that again… that was amazing!!" What a buzz dancing in front of thousands of passionate Tartan Army fans with our own new wee mini-kilts… my wee ticker was beating as fast as I talk (which is pretty quick) all the training had certainly paid off! I was still on a high and buzzing for hours afterwards… even though we did not cheer the boys to victory this time :(
…So you can imagine my reaction and the rest of the girls' when we had been asked to dance at the forthcoming Scotland vs. Argentina game… "I am washing my hair" was certainly not my response!!!!! So on that note… good luck guys for the Argentina game, hopefully we will be cheering you to victory this time!
Lots of love,
Alexis… (Lexi)
