Kat MDear Diary…

Well here we are – The last diary entry of this season. I can't believe how fast the season has gone or how many promotions we have took part in. Time certainly does fly when you're having fun…

On March 1st we held the very first "Scottish Rockettes Dance Workshop" at Braehead Arena. Almost 100 girls poured into the Arena that morning, all buzzing with excitement and enthusiasm. Having already split the girls into one of three groups according to age and experience the night before (I had jaggy stab marks from pins in my thumb from making name badges, Carole Anne's eyes were all saggy to prove her late night… and yes Chris, dear old Chris did all the cutting and sticking like a good boy – I've had it for that) we were able to start straight away with the teaching of the routines. Carole Anne and I had the youngest group who were all really great and extremely well behaved. The youngest group performed their routine pre-game followed by Charlene and Amanda's group and lastly Mag's and Elle's group at the final quarter. All of the groups were very impressive especially the last group who I thought some of them could be potential replacements for us…! Watch out eh… The day was a great success and we would like to say a huge thanks to everyone who came along on the day and to those who have posted messages on the Message Board. You were all fab, if we are lucky enough to have you lot again at another workshop I'm sure it will be just as successful. Thank you. ;o)

All fake-tanned and make-up'd we arrived at the Daily Record studio for a photo shoot in aid of the troops in Iraq. Sporting some casual combats and colour co-ordinated tops we posed for various snaps for the tabloid. Although we had a good experience at the studio, on reflection we took the whole morning very seriously obviously due to the cause. The following week when the photo appeared in the centre pages of the Daily Record surrounded by messages from friends and family of the troops in Iraq, it made it seem so real. I honestly think I read half the messages and then couldn't read anymore, it was really emotional. I was proud that we had put forward our message to the troops and hoped that in some small way it made someone feel a little better. Also I'd like to say hi to the little girl who had the paper with her at the last Rocks game and got us to autograph it for her. Hope you are well.

On 28th March half of the squad headed to the Armadale Speedway and the other half to a Phoenix Mitsubishi Charity Fundraising Night in Paisley. I was given the cold option – the Speedway (bbrrrrrr I hate the cold). My first time at such an event and I was loving it. After ten minutes I forgot about how cold I was and I couldn't believe how those riders managed to stay on their bikes. Unbelievable…! Two routines, a ride in a convertible car with fire works blasting over our heads and a room full of buffet later… (that's like a wee song eh…) we were all in the car heading back to Glasgow. Absolutely loved the racing but don't think I'd get on one of those bikes myself!

At the other end of the country Mags had had a tyre 'blow out' on the motorway!! Half hour later though and Mags and Elle were on stage performing their routine at the charity night for Phoenix Mitsubishi. They said they had a great time, everyone was so nice and they also managed some buffet before heading home. People must think we don't get fed… anywhere we go we look for the buffet first!!! mmmmm…!

After the last home game for the Scottish Rocks we were all a little saddened to think we would never perform on the court again. That was until we were told that we would be dancing at the Harlem Globetrotter's World Tour at Braehead… oooohhhh…! Uniforms back out and at the ready.

I was half joking that day when I sent an email to Suzie McGuire at Clyde1's Lunch Time asking her if she would give us a ''wee'' mention. I told her that we had ladders in our tights, over – bleached hotpants and patchy fake tanned skin. Most of it was true but I was convinced that I'd have it sorted before I arrived at the game that night! Little did I know! On arrival at the Arena I had not only brought the laddered tights with the pea-sized hole that later developed into a man-hole, but I had NO hot pants… AARGGHHH…! To top that off Charlene had forgotten her poms… ARRGHHHH… again. As I stood in the changing room with my laddered tights and giraffe patchy skin I thought… "there is NO way I'm dancing with no hotpants – even my Bridget Jones pants are not nearly as big as the hot pants…" Goodness knows how, but Carole Anne pulled out from her bag not only an extra set of poms for Charlene but an extra pair of hot pants for me. Lucky or what? That's why Carole Anne's the Manager eh…? – On with the show…

The atmosphere at the Harlem Globetrotter's game was amazing. I could barely see an empty seat in the house as we performed our four routines to an electric audience. With sparkling bright lights flashing around us and smoke machines blasting out coloured clouds, we performed a 'tunnel' routine as THE Harlem Globetrotters stampeded onto the court. Their performance was breath taking and the touch of humour they added made the show that more special and enjoyable. 'Globie', their personal mascot, was absolutely hilarious, although he did take great pleasure in humiliating me on court. I'll get him back next time. One of the routines we performed was REDD's – "What you Need" and we were privileged enough to have 'REDD' at the game watching us oooowww… and she was sporting a fab new hair cut. You go girl!!!

So having had completed a jam-packed season full of weekly games and promotional / hospitality events we have come to the end of the first season of the Scottish Rockettes. I'd like to take this chance to add a note of thanks to all the girls in the squad. I feel really pleased and proud to have taken part in the squad this year with you all and I'm glad I was given the opportunity in getting to meet you all. I wish you all the very best of luck for the future. Amanda you are still trying to ride that dead horse girl… (private joke). Best of luck with the teaching Charlene – you will have no problems at all. Elle, some people think you are quiet.! All I can say is those are the people who have not taken the time to get to know you – you're an unconscious comedian and a luv ya. I better say hi to my sis eh… To Bronkin Billy oh sorry Mags, you're a wee gem, get those knees oiled and yer fine for another wee year or so. To Carole Anne in whom I've found a great friend, luv ya – you're doing a fantastic job girl keep up the good work! Thanks a million to Iain who does all this hard work on the site and also takes the pics at the games… errr… but could you not have tried to make me look better…?? Took out some lines and added a few things in places…?? OK I know you are a photographer not a magician.

Thanks to everyone who have posted messages on the message board and given us support throughout the season, we really appreciated it. Make sure you come back and join the new season of the Scottish Rockettes, which I'm sure promises to be just as successful as the first year.

Take care. Bye…!!

Love Kat x
